Be S.M.A.R.T was our first project in the Leaders of the Future program.
There were many emotions—as with any beginning—but also a lot of enthusiasm—like when you feel you are doing what you were created to do. The most amazing thing about the six days of camp was the joy of being together with some extraordinary young people who discovered that they can do more, want more, and carry big dreams that they can’t wait to see come to life.
We gathered some impressions from those who participated. We asked some of the participants to answer three questions, namely:
– How did you enjoy these days at city camp?
– What did you like the most?
– What is the main idea you are taking away from this?
Here is what those interviewed responded:
D.T., 17 years old, economics high school – It was wonderful, it’s a place where young people can grow and, above all, truly discover their skills and values. It was a very enjoyable week, during which I learned and refreshed my knowledge of personal development, attitude, my values, and my dream. If there are similar events in the future, I would definitely like to participate. I leave with the realization that I have leadership skills within me that I can and need to develop.
E.S., 17 years old, Lucian Blaga Theoretical High School – It was a very welcoming and friendly place. I felt very close to everyone around me and I realized that I can be a sociable person, something I didn’t believe before, because I became friends with the girls here at camp. I liked Cosmina and Ionuț’s questions and the topics they addressed the most. Because they made me think more deeply about what I have in my heart. The idea that stuck with me is that a delayed action means a delayed dream.
G.T., 15 years old – I really liked it because I learned a lot about myself. I understood that what I do matters and that my dream matters too. In short, I matter. In Be S.M.A.R.T., I liked the lesson about fear the most and how fear is, most of the time, an emotional block and not real fear. I leave with the idea that my dream can be achieved.
M.V., 17 years old, art high school – I felt very comfortable, very good, I like that I was able to express myself freely. I realized that I can work on myself more. What I liked most was that you are listened to and no one judges you, no one says anything negative, and I can express my ideas, which is very important to me. I leave with the idea that it is very important to work every day for my dream.
H.P., 15 years old, art high school – I had a great time. I understood that I can grow and that whatever I say is not wrong. The idea that impacted me the most is that an undone task means a day delayed for your dream. And that is what I am taking with me.
C.M., 20 years old, Salonta High School – I had a great time at Be S.M.A.R.T. I had some cool experiences and learned a lot of stuff. Like how I can go from being ordinary to having way more potential. What I liked most was the vibe, the fact that I felt like I was part of a family, without restrictions, without the pressure of being judged for my answers. One thing I understood and want to apply is that when I’m in a stressful situation, I should sit down, analyze the problems, and find solutions.
D.M., 20 years old, Salonta High School – I felt like I was part of a family. I wasn’t afraid of being judged or of how others would react, what others would think of me, or how I would be received. What I liked most was that it was an environment where I could express myself, even though I met new people and heard different life experiences and stories that left a mark on my soul and gave me a new perspective on life. I am leaving feeling more courageous and daring to be open in my interactions with those around me, without fear.
Their responses encouraged us to continue. That is why we are returning in the fall with other projects to equip the younger generation with leadership skills.
As the president of our foundation, Ionela Buzlea, says: “We invest in the younger generation because the benefits are extraordinary.” And they are extraordinary because we know that today’s teenagers are capable—if supported and equipped—of changing the game and creating a better future. One that we will all benefit from.
Stay tuned! More exciting things are coming!
