Baza Ghilgal Foundation – first year of activity
The year 2024… what can you say about the first year of a foundation’s activity, except that it was very challenging? Like any beginning, it is full of enthusiasm, big dreams, some successes, but also less inspired decisions and sometimes painful lessons. 🙂 But, on a very positive note, we could say that about our first year of activity the prophet Zechariah said: “For who despises the day of weak beginnings?” We do not, and God neither.
One of the things we are proud of in our first year of activity is the project dedicated to teenagers, a summer camp with the theme of leadership, the BE S.M.A.R.T. city camp.
Then, last fall, we signed the partnership agreement with several NGOs, for the program dedicated to teenagers, TRĂIEŞTE LIBER, a program created and delivered specifically in high schools, with the purpose of drug prevention. Thus, through our LEADERS of the FUTURE program, we make our contribution to the TRĂIEŞTE LIBER project by organizing a series of meetings, in the form of a personal development and vocational discovery club, through which we want to help teenagers discover themselves and make – from a perspective of clarity – personal decisions related to their career. The meetings will take place this year, immediately after the Easter holidays.
Another thing we did last year was launch our other big program, BE FREE, a program dedicated to recovering addicts, and especially those addicted to alcohol. The first step was to popularize this program and contact its first beneficiaries. We intend to create and strengthen two support groups, one for alcoholics/addicts and the second for codependents. The purpose of these groups is to provide support and encouragement during the recovery process of each participant in these groups.
And right towards the end of the year, the need for a counseling project, especially Christian counseling (but not only), became clearly evident, the foundations of which we laid since the first month of 2025.
All of this and the conclusion of 7 volunteer contracts, make 2024 a year that we feel proud of, aware that if we want to have a rich harvest at a given time, we also need a sowing season.
Although it was a good year, overall, 2024 did not spare us from challenges. One of them was moving the work point from the initial location to two other locations. Of course, each move brought with it an upgrade, but they were not exempt from the stress of looking for a new location and the move itself. Now, we are in that space where, beyond the warm and welcoming atmosphere, it seems that everything is in its place.
We discovered that we need to insist on developing personal communication skills. That it is important to clarify from the beginning the expectations of each participant in the various collaborative relationships that we develop within the foundation and in partnership with our partners. We understood the need for clarity in establishing and defining the mission, vision and values of the foundation, because only when we clearly convey them can we find the right partners and collaborators.
We understood the value of organizational culture, the importance of every detail in building such a culture, which we want to be a culture of appreciation, in which each participant feels valued and empowered to engage with their full potential.
We met very nice people in the past year. Some became our mentors, others collaborators and we were amazed to see how many people resonate with our vision: healing the soul and restoring human dignity. We also received the first donations, which we blessed and considered as seeds that will bear rich fruit that will support our projects, present and future.
In conclusion, we can say that we look back on the first year of activity with a heart full of gratitude. If we had to describe it in one word, it would be COURAGE. The courage to come out, to take risks, to dare to dream big, to accept our mistakes. And, armed with this courage, we go through each day of 2025. We wait with amazement for it to surprise and inspire us.
